Forestry in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo
Forestry is the third largest industry in Alberta, supporting thousands of jobs and providing billions of dollars in revenue annually. Alberta’s forests also support numerous species of wildlife, provide opportunities for recreation, and provide numerous ecosystem services. Sustainable forest management, then, must focus on both timber and non-timber forest resources.
Most of Alberta’s forested lands are in northern Alberta, ensuring that forestry and the sustainable management of forest ecosystems are of considerable importance to this region.
